#1 Experience

  1. More than 15 years of experience manufacturing only electric vehicles.
  2. More than 7 Million EVs sold.
  3. 3 choices: Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and Cybertruck. Options include standard and long range battery, and 2 or 4 wheel drive.
  4. Battery range 500km or more depending on model.

#2 Purchasing

  1. There are no Tesla dealerships in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  2. Order online similar to buying from Amazon. You can build to order or choose from existing inventory.
  3. You will pickup your new vehicle in Halifax or arrange for transportation to your home.
  4. You will only have 3 days to pay cash or loan after the car is ready and 3 days after that for pickup. Plan ahead because the delivery date can change and be sooner than anticipated.
  5. Only the Tesla Model Y is listed as eligible for the Federal purchase rebate.

#3 Charging

  1. Can be charged in all chargers with the appropriate adapter.
  2. The car comes with a level 2 j1772 adapter.
  3. You will need to purchase or rent a CCS adapter to use many of the DC fast chargers on the island.
  4. Drive Electric NL rents the CCS adapter for trips.
  5. Tesla has not yet begun installation of Tesla Superchargers anywhere in Newfoundland and Labrador.
  6. An at home charger can be a Tesla brand or any other Level 2 charger.

#4 Maintenance

  1. Vehicle warranty of 4 years, 80,000km and Battery warranty of 8 years, 160,000 km.
  2. No scheduled maintenance.
  3. Brakes should be cleaned/lubricated regularly to prevent seizing but the original brakes may last for many years longer than expected.
  4. The software of the car updates itself periodically to address issues and provide additional functionality.
  5. Repair issues are reported through the app where a remote tech can resolve or schedule the repair.
  6. Mobile technician visits NL periodically to service the cars.
  7. If the vehicle cannot be repaired by the mobile tech, the vehicle may need to be shipped to the Tesla service centre in Halifax. Coverage for this cost will vary depending on warranty status. For vehicles out of warranty there are various private electric vehicle service companies in St. John’s.

#5 Safety

Model Y wins the 2023 safety car award from What Car? “There is no safer place to put your money or your family in 2023 than the Tesla Model Y”. Model Y is the bestselling car worldwide. In addition, the Model 3 won the Executive Car of the Year, as well as the Efficiency award.
