Drive Electric NL was started in 2018 by founders Jon Seary and Joe Butler. It has grown into an online community of over 2300 members interested in the transition to electric transportation in Newfoundland.

In 2021, Drive Electric NL, a non-profit company, requested funding from National Resources Canada to open and staff an Electric Vehicle Resource Centre. Their vision came to fruition on Earth Day, April 21, 2022, with the grand opening of the Drive Electric Resource Centre. The Centre is a place dedicated to providing high quality and straightforward information for those considering an electric vehicle.
